Every January, KNFB provides an environmentally-friendly way for residents to recycle their Christmas trees.
Utilizing local volunteers, thousands of trees are collected annually two locations: The Home Depot on Peachtree-Dunwoody Rd and the Sandy Springs Recycling Center. Trees are chipped by Davey Tree Company and turned into available mulch for local residents and businesses for free.
This event provides local Sandy Springs residents with the opportunity to recycle, reuse, or dispose of large bulky items that are not normally accepted by their waste hauler. Each year at this event, tens of thousands of pounds of bulky items are recycled, refurbished, or donated. Accepted items include: large appliances, electronics, home medical equipment, furniture, metal items such as grills and lawn furniture, bicycles, lawn mowers, and more.
KNFB is part of the Cigarette Litter Prevention Program, which helps to spread awareness of the fact that cigarettes are litter too, and are in fact the most littered item in the United States. KSSB provides free ash receptacles for businesses with a cigarette litter problem, and free pocket ash receptacles for interested individuals. Please visit this website if you have a cigarette litter problem and need assistance.
KNFB offers document shredding services for Sandy Springs residents. Documents will be placed in secure bins that are locked 24/7 inside our office. Our vendor arrives once a week with a shredding truck to shred the documents on-site. There is a charge of $1 per pound of documents for shredding.
KNFB offers the opportunity for the residents of Sandy Springs to recycle electronic items and keep them out of landfills. Items collected include TV's, computers, printers, and more. Check out details about electronics collection at our Sandy Springs Recycling Center.
Periodically, KNFB provides community education to Sandy Springs residents in many forms: teacher workshops, rain-barrel and vermiculture workshops, tours at our local recycling center.

Every other year, KNFB provides residents of Sandy Springs with an opportunity to dispose of dangerous household chemicals and heavy metals. For most of these items, there is no practical and environmentally sound way to dispose of or recycle these times. This event attracts hundreds of residents every other year, and tens of thousands of pounds of dangerous chemicals that are disposed of properly. Items collected include: mercury items, pool chemicals, herbicides, pesticides, acids, corrosives, gasoline, automotive fluids, oil and latex-based paint, aerosols, fire extinguishers, propane tanks, etc.
For information on the safe management of Household Hazardous Waste, and reducing HHW in your home, visit the EPA's website.
KNFB provides temporary, clearstream recycling bins for all city sponsored events.
Contact us if you are interested in making your next big event waste and litter-free.
Each year, KNFB organizes and implements a cleanup of the Chattahoochee River or its tributaries. With the help of local volunteers, we remove about 500 pounds of trash from our local waterways each year while educating the community about water conservation and restoration.
