Welcome To KNFB, Your Sandy Springs Recycling Center

Here is your guide to recycling with us! Find out what we do and don't accept at our facility.

A quick pre-sort of your recyclables makes your visit easy and efficient. 

Plus, it helps keep the entire process flowing quickly for everyone.

Items We Accept

We are a recycling drop-off center only—we do not pay for recyclables. All items must be clean and free of food debris.

RECYCLABLES

  • Aluminum cans
  • Cardboard & chipboard — clean, dry, uncoated (no milk cartons or paper cups)
  • Glass bottles & jars — food/beverage, candle jars, cosmetic (food-grade only)
  • Magazines & newspapers
  • Office & classroom paper
  • Phone books
  • Plastic #1 (PET) bottles — beverage only, narrow neck
  • Plastic #2 (HDPE) — milk jugs, detergent/shampoo bottles
  • Plastic #5 (PP)
  • Scrap metal — steel, iron, brass, copper, aluminum
  • Steel & tin cans


ELECTRONICS

  • Cell phones
  • Computers — laptops & desktops
  • Computer accessories
  • Printer cartridges — inkjet & laser
  • Miscellaneous electronics
  • VHS/CDs


HOUSEHOLD & DONATIONS

  • Appliances — no Freon
  • Books
  • Clothing & shoes (donated to charity)
  • Cooking fats, oils & grease (F.O.G.)—must be liquid, no palm oil or hardened grease
  • Home medical equipment — wheelchairs, walkers, etc. (donated to charity)
  • Small furniture — like-new condition only (donated to charity, no large or damaged pieces)
  • Small household items — excellent condition (donated to charity)
  • Bulky metal items & metal appliances (no Freon) — bookshelves, grills, dryers, lawn furniture, fencing, lamps

Items We Accept with Fees

APPLIANCES

  • Freon appliances—fridges, freezers, A/C, wine coolers—$30


TVS & MONITORS

  • CRT 29" and up — $55
  • CRT under 29" — $25
  • LCD 60" and up—$25
  • LCD under 60" — $15
  • Computer Monitor- $5


PRINTERS

  • Tabletop — $5
  • Floor model — $20


BATTERIES

  • Single-use alkaline (AA, AAA, C, D, 9V), car batteries & vapes— 10¢ each / $2 per lb.
  • Power tool batteries — $3 each


FLUORESCENT BULBS (per bulb)

  • Compact curly style — $1
  • Tube under 4' — $2
  • Tube 4' and up — $5


HAZARDOUS ITEMS

  • Smoke detectors — $2 each
  • Thermometers, thermostats & mercury items — $5 each


OTHER

  • Car tires — $7 each
  • Document shredding — $1 per lb (locked bin, shredded on-site)


PAINT

  •  $25 for 5-gallon buckets, 
  • $5 for 1-gallon cans 
  •  $2 for quarts, pints, and spray cans


How to pay: 

1. Park → 2. Pay at office window → 3. Drop off your item. Cash, checks & all major credit cards are accepted. Do not pay anyone in the parking lot.

Items We Do Not Accept

MATERIALS

  • Aerosol cans
  • Brita filters (Brita has a free mail-in recycling program)
  • Carpet & rugs
  • Fabric furniture
  • Wooden pallets
  • Construction debris (try https://www.mgrecycle.com/locations/ or a local landfill)
  • Household hazardous waste (check our events calendar for drop-off days)
  • Motor fluids — oil, coolant (take to http://www.pepboys.com/ or http://oreillyauto.com/)
  • Plastic bags, film, bubble wrap, mailers (bring clean/dry to any local grocery store)
  • Plastics other than #1 and #2 bottles (big plastic)
  • Styrofoam / polystyrene (search Earth911 for a nearby drop-off)
  • Yard waste (composting recommended; check with your curbside hauler)
  • No old refrigerated food


GLASS

  • Sheet glass, plates, drinking glasses, and vases


FURNITURE & LARGE ITEMS

  • Baby furniture (non-metal)
  • Mattresses & box springs (metal springs accepted as scrap metal)
  • Large wooden or plastic furniture unfit for resale (good condition): Try Habitat for Humanity ReStore.


APPLIANCES & EQUIPMENT

  • Coffee makers
  • Electric toothbrushes
  • Dehumidifiers
  • Air Fryers 
  • Vacuum cleaners
  • Tanks — propane, helium, etc. (try returning to the retailer)


SAFETY ITEMS

  • Children's car seats
  • Needles & sharps (follow local sharps disposal guidelines)
  • Anything that is not reusable


If your items are not usable, check out the items that CHaRM (Center for Hard to Recycle Materials) takes in Atlanta, GA, and see if your item may be taken there.
