Ready to turn your food waste into a valuable resource? Our new Compost Corner pilot program makes it easy and impactful!

Simply bring your accepted food scraps to our center. We'll have a scale for you to weigh your scraps and a QR code to easily log your contribution. Then, you can add your scraps directly to the pile and layer them with provided wood chips. It's a self-reporting system that makes you an active participant in diverting waste!

Composting is the decomposition of organic materials by microorganisms. This organic waste includes leaves, certain kinds of food scraps, and yard trimmings. Some examples of these food scraps are fruit, vegetables, and coffee grounds. Then, the compost is combined with dry or woody plant material and regularly turned. The result is beneficial and nutrient-rich soil that can be put back into the ground. Composting not only results in good soil, but it reduces waste. You can get in on helping the environment by dropping off your compost at the Sandy Springs Recycling Center. Dropping off the dirt also earns you a discount on the dirt that is produced by the composting corner!

My name is Kara Hutton and I am a current student at North Springs High School. I have a passion for helping the environment, being a leader, and serving my community, so I was inspired to start a community composting initiative. My goal is to get people in the community to work together to help the environment through composting. By working with Keep North Fulton Beautiful, The Compost Collective can reach more people and not only help me reach my own goals, but to serve others and benefit the community.
